Development FAQs

Q: How can I find out about grant opportunities?

A: Grant alerts are sent out to subscribers via our A&S Funding Opportunity digests and a repository of opportunities are available on our Opportunities webpage. Faculty also have access to searchable research opportunities databases through the OVPR and CFR offices. Internal competitions for "Limited Submission" grant opportunities (those that mandate a limited number of applications from the university) are coordinated through the VPR’s office. You can find out about limited submissions by joining the LSO listserv or signing up for A&S Funding Opportunity digests.

Q: Can I discuss a project idea with somebody to explore grant potential?

A: Of course. Reach out to Caitlin Charos (Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences) or Trisha Dant (Sciences) to talk through your research concept and explore its potential to attract external funding.

Q: Are there searchable research opportunities databases that the UVA or the College have access to?

A: UVA subscribes to GrantForward. Training on system navigation navigate can be organized through the UVA Library or the VPR’s office.

Q: Who do I contact if we need help with graphics for my submission?

A: If you need help with graphics/figures to increase the competitiveness of your proposal, please reach out to Caitlin Charos or Trisha Dant, your Research Development Managers. Caitlin and Trisha can facilitate figure/graphic design sessions with Avery Wagner, the A&S Graphic Artist.
