Proposal budgets and justifications represent the financial cost of the proposed technical work in the proposal submission. Budgeted staff time represents the amount of time the PI and staff need to devote to the research project to ensure all research aims are accomplished over the life of the grant or contract. Budgets which over or underestimate the cost of implementing the project may disqualify a proposal from sponsor review. Your pre-award research administrator can provide guidance on particular sponsor budget requirements. Some sponsors may only require high level budgets for submissions but UVA requires a detailed internal budget to ensure the budget is compliant with all UVA and sponsor policies.
