The Research Development team develops and sustains an enabling research ecosystem within A&S and supports faculty pursuing external research funding opportunities. Services include:

  • helping faculty identify and evaluate research opportunities and funding avenues
  • facilitating collaborative linkages within and outside the university
  • building and developing relationships with prospective funding organizations
  • providing guidance towards other relevant research support resources (including, for example, seed funding sources, appropriate training programs, research opportunities databases and translational pathways)
  • supporting the proposal development process
  • providing advice and iterative reviews to enhance proposal competitiveness.

The unit works in close cooperation with departments across the three College divisions, the Dean’s Office, other similar units across UVA schools, the VPR (Office of the Vice President for Research), the UVA Foundation Relations team, and the UVA Licensing and Ventures Group. The Managers are also able to help alleviate administrative burden for funding applications. Reach out to them for more information.
